tips to drivers & guides. PROVENCE - France’s most alluring area and a favorite of many artists. Our workshop will be set in one of the most picturesque small towns with painting excursions and visits to several beautiful spots. You will paint the sleepy countryside, vineyards and olive groves, quaint perched villages, the red village of Roussillion, Arles, and the famous Pont du Gard. A visit to Aix-en-Provence is planned to explore the tree lined streets and visit Cézanne's studio and garden. ST. REMY-DE-PROVENCE - in the center of the most beautiful area of Provence, this wonderful little town was much painted by Van Gogh, and at times you will feel as if you are walking through one of his paintings! Small enough that you can walk everywhere, yet large enough to offer a variety of cafes, restaurants, shops and fascinating spots to sketch and paint. The center part of the town is very old with quaint buildings, charming shops and cafes and very narrow streets. You’ll paint the interesting Roman ruins - Glanum - the Roman name for St. Remy and visit St. Paul-de-Mausole, the hospital where Van Gogh lived. You will enjoy St. Remy’s colorful market and quaint shops and cafes. Our hotel is the newly refurbished GOUNOD VILLE VERTE, a charming property in the center of St. Remy, facing the church you see in Van Gogh's Starry Night |
Janet and Steve Rogers met at a Robert E. Wood watercolor workshop in 1984 and their little watercolor world hasn't been the same since! They are experienced workshop teachers, and have led groups to Greece and Italy since 1992. They have led two workshop tours to Italy with Webster's World - one to Tuscany in 2005 and one to the Italian Lakes in 2006 - both filled very quickly. They will provide participants with a list of suggested art materials, and for questions on this workshop they may be reached by email at: rogers@watercolorsbyrogers.com or by phone at 386-441-4930. For more information and to see their paintings, click on the link below to go to their website. During the workshop Steve & Janet will alternate with demonstrations, lessons and critiques, but both will be painting daily and both will be available for individual help. Students may decide to work with one instructor due to preference in style or subject or with both.
